Mainpuri (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 21 (ANI): Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav on Monday exuded confidence in winning the by-polls in Uttar Pradesh.
“Samajwadi Party will win big in Karhal by-elections… The party and workers and fully prepared and seeing the Lok Sabha election results, we are all very positive about the bye-election results. Our strategy will remain the same,” she said.
The Uttar Pradesh bypolls are slated to be held on nine Assembly seats including Meerapur, Kundarki, Ghaziabad, Khair, Karhal, Phulpur, and Katehari.
While polling will take place on November 13, counting of votes is scheduled for November 23, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced. The poll body has announced bypolls for nine of the 10 vacant assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh, except Milkipur of Ayodhya district.
Earlier on October 15, the Election Commission announced bypolls to 48 assembly constituencies including nine seats in Uttar Pradesh and the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat in Kerala.
The bypolls are spread over 15 states – Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav further accused the state government of carrying out “recovery” and “extortion” in the state, while not working towards enforcement of traffic rules.
“In the BJP government of UP, traffic rules are not followed but violated. The BJP government is not interested in enforcing the rules; their entire focus is on recovery and extortion.”
He further listed several reasons for the high number of road accidents in the state.
“The roads are broken, vehicles are illegal, and there is no restriction on overspeeding,” Yadav noted. He also pointed out that the helmet rule is often ignored and only used for “warming up the fists.”
He raised concerns about reckless driving, overloaded vehicles and old vehicles. He also alleged that the fines for drunk driving are only used as a means to “grab money.” (ANI)
